Bristle Weed

What is Bristle Weed?
Bristle Weed is a 100% natural fiber. The fiber strands are coarse and rigid and has a good amount of tensile strength.  The entire bundle is provided to the user pre-shredded meaning you simply pull strands away from the bundle and tie it onto your clothing or equipment.

Why does it make good field camouflage?
As a natural fiber it has all natural characteristics. The older and dirtier it gets the more natural it looks.

Natural vegetation makes the best camouflage...
Yes, exactly. Bristle Weed is a natural fiber. It can be used to supplement your natural vegetation or in place of when vegetation is sparse.

What Am I Getting for My Money?...
Each bundle of fiber weighs about 1/2 pound. We pre-package the fiber into a clear polybag and the fiber is folded in half, thus making the plastic bundle about 17-inches in length. Once you've extracted the fiber from the bag and lay it out end-to-end the fiber measures roughly 31-inches.

APPLYING BRISTLE WEED TO YOUR CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT
Bristle Weed fiber strands are not perfect end-to-end strands making it more cumbersome to work with than our 1-ply jute, Dreadlocks or even MOSS Hair. Use a firm grip when pulling fiber strands away from the bundle. You will notice some strands will clump off in this process but don’t stress. Some waste is to be expected (25% or more). We suggest tying your strands onto your clothing using a loop-knot or shoe-knot and secure the base of your knot with some string or 4-inch zip ties. This will prevent your fiber from unraveling and clumping off your clothing. Try to tie on shorter stands to prevent the fiber from clumping off your clothing during stalks.

The nature of this product makes Bristle Weed best served as a “filler fiber” for your ghillie suit. Despite the fact the fiber is difficult to work with it yields excellent results in the field, providing it’s being used in an area that supports it’s texture.

MAKING COLOR CHANGES TO BRISTLE WEED
Chances are good the natural color of Bristle Weed will not meet the majority of your needs. There are several simple ways the color of this fiber can be remedied. #1 Soak the fiber in mud. #2 Color dye the fiber but yield on the side of caution to weaken your dye bath since your coloring a very light colored fiber. #3 Spray paint the fiber. Some trial and error will be required on your part to get this right and in the process you’ll be adding that much more knowledge to your camouflage field skills.
